The First Regiment of South Carolina infantry was organized by S.C. Governor F.W. Pickens in December 1860 or January 1861. Upon the formation of the Confederate government this regiment was mustered into Confederate service and Company H was mustered in on May 24, 1861 at Sullivan's Island, S.C.
